Comeback Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt
A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks his first title after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from March of 2023.
Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.
"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
His retrieving approach and recurring outbursts on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to go ahead.
The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.
He saved four early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
